As a Claims Specialist, you’ll work collaboratively to handle tasks related to State-Mandated Disability Claims. This customer-facing role requires strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver exceptional service to claimants and policyholders. A professional attitude and a genuine desire to assist others are key.

Success in this role requires critical thinking, strong organizational and time management skills, and a sharp eye for detail due to the sensitive nature of the claims. Experience with State-Mandated Disability Leave, short- and long-term disability, or FMLA leave and claims is essential.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator with strong data entry skills, a curiosity for learning, and the ability to quickly absorb new information. Comfort with technology and a willingness to adapt to evolving tools and processes are also important.

Key Responsibilities:

– Apply departmental procedures and regulatory guidelines appropriately.
– Manage various types of claims by reviewing and prioritizing incoming documents to meet required deadlines.
– Communicate with claimants, policyholders, and healthcare providers to gather necessary information for claim processing.
– Review medical, employer, and claimant data to determine eligibility, benefit duration, and payment amounts, including tax considerations.
– Refer complex cases to subject matter experts or supervisors.
– Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of claim activities and communications.
– Meet or exceed productivity goals for claim processing.
– Make informed decisions to approve, pend, or deny claims based on established procedures.
– Meet or surpass quality standards for financial accuracy and compliance.
– Deliver prompt, accurate, and courteous service to enhance the customer experience.
– Collaborate with other departments to support company and team goals.
– Participate in departmental projects and assignments as needed.

– Team-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
– Knowledge of federal and state leave laws
– Ability to assess and process disability and leave claims
– Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Minimum Requirements:

– High school diploma required
– College degree or a minimum of three years of relevant work experience preferred
– 1–2 years of experience in disability claims
– Familiarity with state-mandated disability claims is highly desirable

Schedule:

– This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position with a semi-flexible Monday–Friday schedule, subject to business needs.

Compensation:

– Salary range: $45,000–$55,000 annually
– Actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, and qualifications. This range is part of a comprehensive compensation package.
