HQ: On-site

  • OFF: Arlington, Virginia
  • Full-Time
  • Management and Finance

The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid, 12-week hands-on learning opportunity offered by Stand Together Fellowships. It provides valuable work experience at nonprofit organizations across the U.S. that are addressing major national issues. Applicants must be located in the U.S. and authorized to work in the country for the duration of the program.

During the internship, participants will gain professional experience at a partner organization and engage in development activities, including a two-day, in-person summit at Stand Together’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, as well as virtual sessions held every other Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. ET. Interns will receive a stipend of either $7,500 for full-time (40 hours/week) or $5,500 for part-time (24 hours/week) participation.

The program’s curriculum focuses on three main goals:

1. Exploring the core principles of a free society, such as individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and the rule of law.
2. Understanding Stand Together’s vision for change and how principled problem-solving can address societal challenges.
3. Identifying career paths that promote liberty and a free society.

Applicants will interview with both nonprofit partners and Stand Together Fellowships staff, so early applications are encouraged.

You: A curious, driven, and independent college junior, senior, graduate student, or recent graduate who values liberty and wants to promote it. You have strong communication skills and enjoy solving problems.

Them: Government entities—like bureaucrats, city councils, and federal agencies—that infringe on Americans’ rights, often with vast resources at their disposal.

Us: We push back. Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF) is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm focused on defending individual liberty. With 18 wins out of 20 cases heard by the U.S. Supreme Court and nearly 200 active cases nationwide, PLF is committed to being a leader in the legal field.

The Strategic Research Intern will join PLF’s Strategic Research team, which produces high-quality social science research to support the organization’s mission. The team collaborates with PLF’s Litigation, Legal Policy, Constitutional Scholarship, and Communications departments. Interns will gain experience in:

– Requesting public records from government officials.
– Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data using tools like Excel, R, Python, GIS, or Stata.
– Conducting literature reviews on topics such as regulatory reform, housing, property rights, and coastal land issues.
– Creating internal data to support litigation, communications, or policy efforts.
– Writing blog posts, opinion pieces, or informational documents related to PLF’s work.

General Information:

PLF identifies and litigates key legal issues to set impactful precedents that benefit people across the country. Through strategic litigation, communications, and research, PLF defends freedom in both the courts and public discourse.

As a national nonprofit, PLF has offices in Sacramento, CA; Arlington, VA; and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, with about half of its staff working remotely. Interns will work remotely by default but may request to work from one of PLF’s offices. This is a part-time position.

Compensation: $5,500 annually

To apply, submit:

– A résumé highlighting relevant experience and skills.
– A cover letter explaining why you want to work at PLF, your passion for liberty, and what sets you apart.
– A writing sample.
– Your semester schedule (if enrolled in classes during the internship).

Stand Together Fellowships values diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds, believing they foster innovation and success. The admissions team treats all applicants with fairness and respect and welcomes candidates of all backgrounds, regardless of legally protected characteristics.
