About the Job
Want to help launch an exciting new cafe? We’re looking for passionate coffee lovers and customer‑focused team members for our Valley Fair location in San Jose, opening in June. The expected start date is June 11. At Blue Bottle, a Barista is someone who cares deeply about coffee, food, sustainability, and creating warm, respectful guest experiences. Join us, grow with our team, and help build community through coffee.
You will
• Support your team by handling the tasks that keep the cafe or kiosk running smoothly, such as cleaning, washing dishes, sweeping, dusting, mopping, organizing condiment stations, and taking out trash
• Build community by sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge of coffee with guests and encouraging teammates to do the same
• Provide exceptional hospitality to guests, teammates, and partners
• Prepare and serve a range of delicious drinks using various brewing and preparation methods
• Prepare and serve tasty food items
• Stay informed about current Blue Bottle food and drink offerings and preparation methods, continually expanding your knowledge through tastings and training
• Regularly taste Blue Bottle beverages to ensure quality and refine your palate
• Support company sustainability goals
• Follow all health, food safety, and safety standards
• Contribute to a respectful and safe workplace
You are

You have
• A valid Food Handler Certification for your state, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
• Basic math and computer abilities

Compensation
• Starting at $20.00 per hour, plus tips averaging about $7–$9 per hour
Physical requirements of the Barista role
• Ability to stand and walk for long stretches
• Use of hands for precision tasks, such as operating espresso machines, pouring coffee, and using the register
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach for items above and below waist level
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, such as bags of beans, milk crates, dishes, or trash bins
• Ability to climb steps or ladders when necessary
• Ability to smell and taste to support quality control
• Ability to listen and speak clearly with guests and teammates
