About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Courses – Analytics Team, which delivers analytics and feedback for thousands of creators using our Courses platform, supporting more than a million monthly active learners and enabling community engagement and interaction. By streaming petabytes of video content and powering customized, white‑labeled mobile apps, we help creators deliver cohesive branded experiences across web and mobile.
As a Staff Engineer, you will define the platform’s technical direction, tackle complex distributed systems challenges, work with large‑scale datasets, develop advanced analytics capabilities, optimize data pipelines across multiple databases, and mentor more than 10 engineers across five product teams. You will collaborate closely with product, design, infrastructure, and security partners to shape long‑term architecture, raise engineering standards, and deliver seamless, scalable user experiences.
Responsibilities
• Lead architectural and scaling decisions for core Course platform components such as the Analytics Engine, Insights Platform, and Data Ingestion Pipelines
• Drive cross‑team initiatives to enhance reliability, latency, and throughput across time‑sensitive APIs and workflows
• Work directly with technologies such as NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, queuing systems, data warehousing tools, and service‑mesh‑based microservices
• Strengthen observability and resilience by improving monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices using tools like Prometheus and Grafana
• Use LLMs and AI tools to accelerate coding, refactoring, testing, and debugging while implementing safeguards to minimize hallucinations and improve reliability
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and security teams to maintain data integrity, enforce access controls, and ensure compliance
• Mentor and support a team of high‑performing engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional development
• Stay current with emerging AI/LLM technologies, engineering best practices, and distributed system patterns, bringing valuable insights back to the team
• Participate in design reviews, technical deep dives, and on‑call rotations to uphold a culture of accountability and operational excellence
Qualifications
• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including designing fault‑tolerant, high‑scale systems
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, event‑driven architecture, and asynchronous processing
• Proven ability to optimize availability, performance, and reliability under real‑world load
• Strong experience with both relational and NoSQL data models, especially for complex transactional workflows
• Background in data analytics pipelines and OLAP/OLTP databases
• Familiarity with monitoring, SLO management, and root‑cause analysis in production environments
• Knowledge of hallucination‑mitigation techniques such as code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, and context injection
• Excellent communication skills and a strong track record of cross‑functional collaboration
• A pragmatic, hands‑on leadership style that balances long‑term strategy with incremental delivery
