The organization focuses on fields with high potential for impact, including AI and advanced computing, astrophysics, biosciences, climate, and space, and also supports researchers across disciplines through its science systems program.

We are looking for a dynamic, relationship-focused Alumni Associate to design, expand, and enhance alumni engagement with research scientists. This new role is key to fostering a strong community of more than 1,000 current and former grantees and fellows who stay connected to and supported by the Schmidt Sciences mission. Our work spans five scientific areas: AI and advanced computing, astrophysics and space, biosciences, climate, and science systems.

The Alumni Associate will lead both the strategy and day-to-day operations of alumni engagement efforts. Responsibilities include supporting career and professional development resources, maintaining alumni data, and promoting alumni involvement in events, organizational activities, and evaluation projects. This person will serve as the main point of contact between alumni and Schmidt Sciences program teams, cultivating long-term relationships that strengthen community impact, enhance storytelling, and support institutional goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create and execute a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy to foster a growing, connected alumni community
• Maintain up-to-date alumni records in the organization’s CRM; analyze engagement and prepare reports to guide decisions
• Produce content for communications such as newsletters and email campaigns, ensuring strong and consistent storytelling
• Plan and run alumni events and programs, including reunions, networking gatherings, mentoring initiatives, and professional development opportunities
• Build systems to identify and support alumni who can serve as ambassadors, mentors, volunteers, or organizational advocates
• Work with internal teams to ensure alumni activities align with organizational priorities
• Develop, pitch, and curate media stories highlighting alumni research and career paths
• Track current fellows and grantees, monitoring achievements such as publications, projects, and speaking engagements
• Develop events, communications, and networking opportunities for the community
• Create ways for alumni to give back through mentorship, advisory roles, proposal reviews, and collaborative projects
• Assess the impact of community-building efforts and award programs, using feedback to improve engagement
• Expand community visibility and increase presence at events across our scientific focus areas
• Conduct ongoing assessments to understand alumni needs and adjust programming
• Contribute to broader communication work, including storytelling, branding, messaging, social media, and other tasks as needed
• Travel as required for alumni events or external representation

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, science, or a related field
• At least 3 years of experience in alumni relations, community management, external relations, or similar roles
• Proven success in managing projects, communications, and stakeholder relationships
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
• Proficiency with CRM/database tools such as Salesforce, Google Suite, and Airtable, as well as digital communication platforms
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to identify compelling, impact-driven stories
• Capable of working both independently and collaboratively

Salary range: $110,000–$150,000 per year
This is an exempt position.
