Role:
As Controller, you will build and oversee the global accounting foundation that supports Sword’s growth and prepares the company for public‑company standards. You will be responsible for accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and successful external audits. This highly visible position works closely with the Finance leader, Audit Committee, and senior leadership across the business. You will act as both strategist and builder, leading a junior but capable team, enhancing systems and processes, and helping shape a world‑class finance organization as Sword expands across the US and Europe. Team:
Sword’s Finance Team plays a central role in maintaining the company’s financial strength as it delivers leading healthcare solutions. The team manages financial planning, analysis, reporting, accounting, revenue operations, and procurement. By optimizing resources, ensuring compliance, and driving efficient revenue operations, Finance provides strategic insights that guide decision‑making and support the company’s continued growth. The team works closely with all departments to enable innovation and help the organization reach its goals while upholding sound financial practices.

What you’ll do:
Global Accounting & Controls Leadership:
• Lead US GAAP‑compliant accounting, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and multi‑entity consolidation across the US and Europe.
• Oversee month‑end close, general ledger accuracy, intercompany transactions, and financial reporting.
• Maintain internal controls and policies necessary for future public‑company requirements; partner with InfoSec, IT, and Legal.
• Prepare for and lead external audits and manage auditor relationships.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare‑related financial regulations (including SOC2 and HIPAA‑related processes).
• Prepare global financial statements and management reports, collaborating with FP&A to produce insights.
• Present updates on reporting and internal controls to the Audit Committee.
• Support technical accounting research and new standard implementation.

Revenue & Cost Governance:
• Monitor performance and margins across various revenue streams and commercial models.
• Work with Commercial and Revenue Operations to strengthen data quality across CRM, billing, and contract systems, ensuring the accuracy of the utilization‑based revenue model.

Tax Compliance:
• Oversee US and international tax compliance (VAT, sales tax, income tax).
• Manage R&D tax credit documentation and processes.
• Improve tax data collection and filing through automation.

Process & System Scaling:
• Create and refine scalable workflows across AP, AR, payroll, and spend approvals.
• Implement and optimize financial systems such as ERP, spend management, and travel tools.
• Lead automation initiatives to reduce manual work and accelerate close timelines.

Team Leadership:
• Lead and develop an Accounting team spread across the US and Europe.
• Strengthen team capabilities, support junior talent, and hire as needed.

Strategic Transactions:
• Ensure accurate accounting for equity, debt financing, and fundraising events.
• Support corporate structuring and M&A integration, including financial and tax due diligence and purchase price accounting.

What you need:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years managing teams.
• Experience in a fast‑growing startup or scale‑up.
• Strong technical accounting skills (US GAAP, ASC 606, multi‑country consolidation).
• Proven success leading audits and implementing internal controls.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Hands‑on experience across AP, AR, payroll, revenue operations, tax, and reporting, including complex intercompany structures.
• Experience working across multiple countries/entities (US and Europe preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to improve systems, processes, and close timelines.
• Ability to excel in a dynamic high‑growth environment.
• Experience with IPO or SOX readiness.
