At Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN), we’re driven by a mission to power a sustainable future. As innovators in renewable energy, we invest not only in large-scale clean energy projects but also in people, communities, and a greener world.

Since entering the renewables sector in 2010, we’ve rapidly become a leading onshore wind investor across mainland Europe, the largest solar power supporter in Europe, and are now expanding enthusiastically into offshore wind. We currently manage more than £7 billion in renewable energy assets worldwide.

Our growing portfolio includes over three hundred major energy-producing companies, ranging from wind farms to solar plants, with new initiatives in energy storage and hydrogen progressing fast. As we continue to expand, we’re seeking passionate individuals to join our diverse and committed team to help shape the future of renewable energy.

About the role
We’re looking for a motivated and analytical ESG professional to join our London team. This position suits someone who enjoys data‑driven ESG and sustainable finance work and wants to contribute to advancing responsible investment in the renewable energy space.

As a Portfolio ESG Analyst/Associate, you’ll collaborate closely with the Asset Management and Fund Management teams across both operational and construction‑stage projects. You’ll support strong ESG risk management and help to advance sustainability and impact goals. The role is highly visible, with opportunities to lead ESG reporting for selected funds and contribute to stewardship and engagement with portfolio companies and asset managers.

What you’ll do
• Manage ESG data systems by developing structured processes for collecting, storing, and calculating ESG data from renewable assets and partners, ensuring alignment with SFDR and other disclosure standards.
• Build scalable reporting processes, including templates and tools that support efficient reporting across the platform.
• Lead ESG reporting for specific funds, covering regulatory, investor, and internal requirements such as quarterly updates, annual impact reporting, and investor presentations.
• Support stewardship and engagement by working with investee companies and external asset managers to strengthen ESG strategy and implementation, contribute to engagement plans, oversee follow‑ups, and track progress on themes like biodiversity, community engagement, and supply chain transparency.
• Support ESG integration in new investments by participating in due diligence, assessing risks, negotiating ESG data requirements, and identifying early opportunities for environmental and social value creation.
• Conduct ongoing ESG reviews with asset managers and service providers to identify risks and improvement areas.
• Assist with Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon measurement, including data collection and applying carbon accounting approaches.
• Stay up to date with ESG regulations such as SFDR, the EU Taxonomy, TCFD, and CSRD, ensuring processes evolve appropriately.
• Contribute to impact initiatives focused on biodiversity, community benefits, and circular economy efforts.
• Turn ESG data into compelling insights and case studies that resonate with investors and highlight the impact of our ESG work.

What you’ll need
• 1–5 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or sustainable finance, ideally within infrastructure, real assets, or investment funds
• Knowledge of sustainability regulations and frameworks (SFDR, EU Taxonomy, TCFD, CSRD, PRI)
• Practical experience with carbon footprinting and ESG data collection is a plus
• Strong quantitative and analytical abilities, comfortable working with complex datasets
• Experience creating or managing reporting tools and improving data processes
• Highly organised, resilient, and able to juggle multiple deadlines
• Able to work independently, collaborate effectively, and build strong relationships
• A genuine passion for sustainability, the energy transition, and the role of finance in achieving net zero
