Location: Remote
EXPANSIA is hiring a Database Administrator to join NASA’s Consolidated Applications and Platform Services (NCAPS) team. NCAPS is responsible for consolidating and standardizing NASA’s IT systems and applications, including general IT, customer support, information management, and mission support systems. You will contribute your expertise to an Agile CI/CD team dedicated to protecting NASA’s enterprise environment.
As a Database Administrator III, you will support database systems and applications across a geographically distributed enterprise network with diverse servers and applications. Your responsibilities include implementing, optimizing, and maintaining databases to ensure reliable operations, strong security, and high efficiency. You will manage performance through index tuning, backup and recovery operations, and system integration, while ensuring compliance with security and data integrity standards. You will also develop stored procedures, create policies, and oversee tasks such as backup scheduling, replication management, and transaction monitoring. Additional duties include supporting database designers and analysts, reviewing technical designs, and assisting with SQL and web‑based database development. This role requires working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment and frequent interaction with client managers and system users.
The expected salary range is $104,750 to $112,500. Final compensation may vary based on factors such as Federal Government labor categories, contract wage rates, prior experience, specific skills, location, education, and certifications. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage database server administration within a global Active Directory environment
• Provide Tier 2 DBA support, including planning, implementing, and monitoring patching for physical and virtual systems
• Maintain database operations, ensuring performance, security, and integrity
• Conduct index and database performance tuning
• Evaluate database design and integration, recommending enhancements
• Perform backup and recovery operations and enforce security controls
• Develop and enforce database policies, standards, and procedures
• Monitor transactions, utilization, and system performance
• Create and manage stored procedures, triggers, and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports
• Administer Microsoft SQL Server and other database management systems
• Audit, modify, and update records using SQL
• Oversee database scheduling, log backups, alerts, and replication across multiple SQL Servers and remote sites
• Support development of SQL and web‑based databases
• Review technical documentation and system designs for accuracy and compliance
• Research and implement new technologies to enhance efficiency and security
• Support operational strategies and process‑improvement initiatives
• Record 100% of planned work hours
• Identify and report potential growth opportunities within your work area
• Participate in growth initiatives when requested
• Ensure all contractual deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations
• Complete your PDP and attend required meetings with your camera on
• Build strong professional relationships with program clients
• Carry out all assigned contract requirements per LCAT guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• Clearance: Active Public Trust
• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 5–7 years of experience, or a Master’s with 3–5 years
• Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL certification
• CompTIA Security+ (IAT Level II or higher)
• Strong knowledge of major relational database systems and languages, including SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL
• Strong attention to detail, customer service mindset, and teamwork skills
• Proficiency in SQL, stored procedures, and performance optimization
• Solid understanding of database security and backup/recovery processes
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues independently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• ITIL v3 Foundation
• SAFe team certification
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
• Oracle OCP/OCA or MySQL certification
• Experience automating tasks with PowerShell, VBScript, or batch files
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions and requirements
• Experience with VMware ESXi
• Experience with SAN/NAS storage
• Experience with enterprise backup solutions
