Scholar Rock is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering transformative therapies for people with serious conditions that lack effective treatment options. As a global leader in the science of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) superfamily—and named for the way scholar rocks visually resemble protein structures—the clinical‑stage company focuses on advancing treatments driven by protein growth factors. Over the past decade, it has built a pipeline aimed at improving care for neuromuscular diseases, cardiometabolic disorders, cancer, and other conditions where growth factor‑targeted therapies may have significant impact.
Scholar Rock is the only company to demonstrate clinical proof of concept for a muscle‑directed therapy in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Its commitment to pioneering fundamentally new therapeutic approaches is fueled by broad application of its proprietary platform, which has created novel monoclonal antibodies capable of modulating protein growth factors with exceptional precision. By applying cutting‑edge science in disease areas historically underserved by traditional treatments, Scholar Rock strives daily to create new possibilities for patients.
Scholar Rock is seeking Neuromuscular Specialists to join the sales team. This role plays a key part in engaging healthcare providers as the company prepares for the potential launch of its lead program, apitegromab, for SMA. The Neuromuscular Specialist reports to the Area Business Director.
The ideal candidate will identify, build, and maintain relationships with physicians, healthcare stakeholders, and treatment centers to provide accurate education on SMA, support decision‑making, and help address challenges that affect patient care. They will also collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to align on goals and remove barriers to patient access.
Responsibilities include:
• Driving SMA patient identification and market development through a territory strategy, account planning, and execution to meet or exceed sales goals.
• Assessing opportunities within markets and accounts to sustain and grow business.
• Prioritizing time and resources to focus on accounts with the greatest potential.
• Educating healthcare providers about Scholar Rock services.
• Building strong physician relationships through strategic call planning and follow‑up.
• Developing productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, adapting communication styles, and facilitating cross‑functional alignment.
• Working with commercial, compliance, and patient care teams to ensure site‑of‑care access and logistical readiness.
• Tailoring approaches based on stakeholder needs to meet objectives.
• Partnering with key accounts and physicians to create account plans, support patient identification, and achieve sales targets.
• Delivering promotional programs and educational sessions within the territory.
• Managing travel schedules and call plans to ensure sufficient coverage of priority accounts.
Candidate requirements include:
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in healthcare or biotech sales, account management, or field reimbursement; rare disease or neuromuscular experience is preferred.
• A strong sales track record with cross‑functional collaboration experience.
• In‑depth knowledge of field reimbursement, specialty distribution, patient support programs, and buy‑and‑bill models.
• Willingness to spend about 60% of time traveling, including some overnight trips.
• A valid driver’s license is required, as driving is essential for this role.
