About the Role
The Athletic is now accepting applications for the Leon H. Carter newsroom internship, a 12‑week remote program running from late August or early September through November 2025. The intern will work closely with our colleges desk, gaining exposure to all areas of the newsroom. The goal of this internship program is to identify and develop the next generation of top industry talent. The intern will contribute to our most informative coverage and support our mission to be the world’s leading source for sports news.

This internship is remote but may involve occasional travel to New York City. Candidates based in New York City may choose to work on-site at our office.
The hourly pay rate for this role is $20.00 USD.
Responsibilities
• Provide in-season coverage of a college football team, including news, features, and game stories.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions and pitch story ideas to editors and colleagues.
• Demonstrate strong news judgment and the ability to develop sources.
• Manage multiple story projects at once and prioritize effectively.
• Write quick-turn news updates and deliver analysis across different platforms.
• Collaborate effectively with fellow reporters.
Requirements
• Open to undergraduate and graduate students; preference given to undergraduate juniors and seniors. Must be able to work 30–40 hours per week.
• Previous newsroom internship experience is helpful.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Strong sports knowledge and enthusiasm.
• This remote internship will require some travel to New York City.
