We are seeking a controller who is eager to build and lead a top-tier finance organization capable of supporting our fast growth and enabling efficient scaling as we work to transform global transportation. Your mission will be to protect the company’s assets while ensuring complete financial transparency and compliance. You will interpret complex operations into clear financial insights, maintain data integrity, and design scalable processes that support our transition from R&D to commercial deployment in a capital-efficient way.
You will…
– Provide financial leadership and governance by overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
– Develop and help implement business best practices and systems such as ERP, payroll, accounts payable, and expense tools.
– Offer technical accounting expertise, including guidance on revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and equity compensation, as well as:
1) FBAR & Form 5472/5471 for foreign-owned corporations
2) Transfer pricing and intercompany service agreements between the US and Canada
3) PFIC monitoring
4) Canadian parent/US subsidiary accounting and foreign currency translation (ASC 830 / FASB 52)
5) 409A valuations and ASC 718 stock-based compensation, including managing US equity under a Canadian parent
– Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, improving speed and maintaining accuracy.
– Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for executives, investors, and the Board.
– Establish and maintain strong internal controls, including SOX compliance where applicable.
– Manage financial audits, tax compliance, licenses, and permits, serving as the primary contact for external auditors.
– Track and manage revenue, expenses, depreciation, and amortization.
– Oversee cash flow, accounts receivable and payable, the general ledger, payroll, and related functions.
– Ensure compliance with tax laws at all levels in both Canada and the US.
– Mentor, grow, and lead a high-performing accounting team.
Qualifications:
– 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in public accounting (Big 4 or Top 10 preferred)
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
– CPA license
– Experience managing internal and external accounting teams
– Strong systems experience, including online accounting, AR/AP, payroll, expense software, Excel, and data visualization tools
– Deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience preparing technical accounting memos
– Experience in technology companies in both Canada and the US, including payroll practices
– Experience building internal controls and financial processes
– Strong analytical skills and understanding of subscription-based models
– Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
– Collaborative, open-minded team player
– Passion for autonomous driving technology and solving complex problems

– Experience in fast-growing startups
– Hands-on full-cycle ERP implementation experience
– Knowledge of payroll requirements in Canada and the US
– Experience in IPO readiness
The US salary range for this position is $200,000–$250,000 USD, along with competitive benefits and perks. Additional compensation includes equity awards and an annual performance bonus.
