What will you be doing?

Octopus Energy Engineering manages the sites, services, and tariffs used by millions of customers worldwide. We build innovative time‑of‑use tariffs, create experiences that make routine tasks like submitting meter readings enjoyable, and deliver everything in between.

You’ll encounter a wide range of challenges as we help drive the energy revolution forward. Our multidisciplinary teams collaborate across countries, giving you the right people and resources to build what comes next.

We’re hiring a Product Manager to join OE Engineering and support our OE Backend team.

The OE Backend team is a new group of backend developers building a global backend codebase for all Octopus Energy teams. Their responsibilities include:

– Working with teams across the world to enable full‑stack feature development on the Octopus Energy Backend.
– Migrating existing features from other repositories into the new backend.
– Collaborating with multiple teams to create shared understanding.
– Designing scalable features suitable for all Octopus regions by gathering requirements and defining a unified core solution.
– Providing backend assistance to other teams when needed.
– Defining technical needs that depend on other teams and clearly communicating priorities to Client Delivery teams.

What you’ll need:

– Genuine care for customers
– Experience turning problems (not rigid instructions) into strong solutions
– Ability to discuss system architecture and performance with backend engineers
– Good judgment on what needs attention now and what doesn’t
– Ability to juggle multiple tasks and switch context effectively
– A collaborative mindset
– Comfort reaching out to many teams proactively
– Understanding of backend engineering concepts
– Confidence making quick decisions
– Ability to take on large responsibilities independently
– Empathy when delegating and working with others
– Enjoyment of being the “glue” that connects teams

– Figma
– Python‑based development framework
– Database management
– API design (GraphQL, REST)

Helpful but not required:

– Experience in fast‑paced environments
– Experience in the energy industry
