Metabase’s BizOps & Finance team is a small but high-impact group responsible for building the systems that keep the company running smoothly. Our work spans finance, accounting, sales operations, legal operations, compliance, and account management — all treated as different forms of operations. Whatever we take on, we design it, build it, and run it, ideally in an automated way. Our mission is to free the rest of the company to focus on creating great software.

We’re seeking a versatile generalist with strong communication and analytical skills to lead our commercial operations. In this role, you’ll oversee the systems and processes that govern how we contract with customers and manage commercial risk, helping us close deals efficiently and support a wider range of clients. You’ll manage contracts, collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to make informed decisions about risk, and lead key compliance initiatives by turning complex requirements into scalable, practical processes. This position is ideal for someone who can move fluidly between strategic thinking and detailed execution, and who enjoys bringing clarity and structure to ambiguous challenges.

Responsibilities
• Work with external counsel and the Sales team to identify and mitigate business risks during contract reviews
• Maintain and update contract templates, terms of service, privacy policies, and related materials
• Improve and maintain systems that support commercial operations, such as contract routing and contract management tools
• Lead compliance projects that reduce risk and expand our ability to work with regulated and enterprise customers
• Note: this is an individual contributor role, not a people-management position

About you
• You come from a generalist business background (such as consulting or operations) or a legal background, and you’re excited to take on broader commercial and operational responsibilities
• You think analytically and communicate clearly, and you’re comfortable working with complex documents and ambiguous problems
• You’re comfortable with numbers and eager to learn financial concepts
• You can understand business processes end to end and know how to improve or automate them
• You collaborate well with internal teams and external experts, including lawyers and customers
• You’re organized, can manage multiple projects at once, and consistently see work through to completion
• You’ve demonstrated strong judgment, ownership, and a bias toward action in fast‑moving environments
• You have a low‑ego, team‑first mindset — no task is beneath or beyond you
• You have a strong academic background that shows analytical rigor
• An MBA is a plus
