About the Role

We’re hiring a VP of Communications to lead our communications strategy during a critical phase of our growth. This role is responsible for shaping and sharing our story both internally and externally. It’s a hands-on position that goes beyond traditional communications.

We’re looking for a strategic thinker and doer—someone who thrives in dynamic environments, can simplify complex ideas, and translate business goals into clear, compelling messages that build trust, engagement, and brand strength.

In this role, you will:

– Define and implement Wealthsimple’s external communications strategy.
– Lead a small, high-performing team covering media relations, executive communications, crisis management, and more.
– Collaborate with our CEO and leadership team on speeches, thought leadership, board communications, and investor messaging.
– Build strong relationships with top-tier Canadian and U.S. media, proactively manage our public narrative, and respond effectively to crises.
– Anticipate and manage risks with thoughtful, values-driven communication.
– Work with teams across Marketing, Regulatory, Government Affairs, Product, and Finance to tell Wealthsimple’s story in a way that sets us apart and strengthens our brand.
– Partner with our Employee Experience and Culture team to keep employees informed, aligned, and motivated—creating communication strategies that reinforce our culture of excellence.

What you’ll bring:

– 12+ years of communications experience, including 5+ years leading teams and managing agency budgets.
– Experience in fast-paced, high-visibility sectors like tech, fintech, or financial services, with a strong media network and a proven track record in managing national and international press.
– Excellent writing skills, with the ability to turn complex or regulated topics into clear, relatable content.
– Experience working with executives and boards, including preparing for investor or regulatory engagements.
– Agility and adaptability in fast-changing environments, with strong prioritization skills.
– A history of building and scaling high-performing communications teams.
