About the Role

We’re seeking a Conversation Designer to help shape the voice experience of our product. In this role, you’ll design interactions that make users feel supported, understood, and empowered to move at their own pace. You’ll craft conversations, prompts for large language models (LLMs), and product copy that encourage users to feel seen, safe, and open.

This is a temporary contract role (approximately 40 hours per week, W2) with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position.

Responsibilities

– Write dialogue and prompts that handle sensitive, emotional moments with care, helping users feel safe and open.
– Develop training transcripts and curated conversations to fine-tune AI models.
– Review and improve LLM-generated responses to enhance emotional nuance, empathy, safety, and clarity.
– Create product copy for UI, onboarding, notifications, and storytelling to build user trust.
– Collaborate with design, research, and engineering teams to create intuitive, emotionally resonant AI-first experiences.
– Refine Hinge’s voice to balance warmth and wisdom, clarity and compassion, across all user interactions.
– Apply insights from psychology, behavioral science, and matchmaking to design emotionally grounded conversations.

What We’re Looking For

– A talented writer with a strong sense for natural dialogue and the ability to write in multiple voices.
– At least 4 years of experience in content design, conversation design, or UX writing, preferably with exposure to AI or dialogue systems.
– Proficient in creating dialogue datasets and training data for AI, with experience evaluating and refining LLM outputs.
– Empathetic and research-oriented, with a deep interest in psychology, relationships, and the emotional impact of language.
– Comfortable writing for personal and emotionally complex moments—ranging from self-doubt to hope.
– Able to shift between poetic and precise language to match the emotional tone of different situations.
– Thrives in ambiguous, early-stage product environments where language, design, and AI intersect.
– Collaborative across teams, yet confident leading writing and iteration independently.

Compensation: $47 – $57 per hour

Final pay will depend on factors such as job scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions. This range reflects a role based in New York City and may be adjusted based on location if remote work is approved.
