Role Summary:
The Digital Organizer manages the North Carolina Chapter’s digital platforms, social media, and communication tools to support organizing efforts, community engagement, and campaign objectives. This role involves coordinating volunteer involvement through digital tools like Campfire/Salesforce, building grassroots networks online, and supporting data-driven strategies. The Digital Organizer crafts inclusive and engaging digital experiences across email, social media, mobile, and other platforms, ensuring content aligns with equity and justice principles.

Key Responsibilities:

– Identify and implement innovative digital strategies to expand our base of activists and members, deepen supporter engagement, and mobilize communities in support of Sierra Club’s mission. Ensure campaigns center equity and include frontline communities.
– Collaborate with the manager and Chapter staff to develop audience engagement strategies and pathways for deeper involvement. Support outreach and communication with new members, supporters, and volunteers.
– Set and track performance metrics for organizing and campaign goals. Analyze and optimize digital communications including emails, texts, and social media.
– Provide training and support to staff and volunteers on digital tools (e.g., Salesforce), manage data collection and reporting, and facilitate digital engagement such as webinars and virtual meetings.
– Work with the organizing and communications teams to manage Chapter social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Slack, Discord). Align content with national campaigns and support local volunteer groups with their social media efforts. Moderate platforms to ensure inclusive and respectful engagement.
– Support digital aspects of in-person event planning, including online promotion, participant tracking, and coordination with event organizers.
– Build strong, accountable relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners. Foster inclusive coalition spaces and seek partnerships with frontline and marginalized communities to advance shared goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

– Experience in digital organizing, including event promotion, volunteer engagement, and online communications. Background in grassroots or community work is a plus.
– Proficiency with digital tools such as Zoom, G-Suite, Salesforce, social media platforms, and peer-to-peer organizing tools. Administrative experience with CRM systems is preferred.
– Experience managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) and online communities (e.g., Slack, Discord). Familiarity with social media advertising and analytics is a plus.
– Strong data management skills, including experience with Excel or Google Sheets. Ability to use both quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategies. Knowledge of statistical tools like Stata, SAS, or R is a bonus.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively engage diverse audiences through various communication channels.
– Commitment to personal growth and learning around systems of oppression. Willingness to reflect on and adjust personal behaviors related to privilege and power.
– Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a collaborative spirit and a sense of humor.
– Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and be willing to travel occasionally for in-person events in the Triangle area. This is primarily a remote position.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Knowledge of environmental and energy issues, particularly in the areas of regional energy, climate justice, or conservation.
– Connections within North Carolina’s grassroots environmental justice community.
– Experience working in coalition with community-based organizations.
– Background in digital organizing within the nonprofit sector.

Compensation and Benefits:
Annual salary: $65,000
This is a union-represented, exempt position (Category 5).
