Position Summary

Location: This hybrid role is based in Atlanta, GA. Relocation costs are not covered. The position requires up to 40% international travel.

Salary: $85,000–$100,000, plus benefits

Job Overview

The CDC Foundation is hiring a full-time Epidemiologist to support research and surveillance efforts aimed at reducing maternal and newborn mortality in Tanzania and similar low-resource settings. This role is part of a research team assessing the availability, accessibility, and quality of maternal health services in Tanzania. The Epidemiologist will engage in fieldwork, contribute to and lead aspects of monitoring and evaluation, and apply strong analytical and public health expertise to help achieve the project’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct and potentially lead data analysis to better understand and improve maternal health services in low-resource environments.
– Offer strategic insights into global approaches for addressing disparities in maternal health outcomes.
– Provide mentorship or review work of junior staff as needed.
– Develop and manage standard procedures and data tools for organizing data collection and supervising field teams.
– Stay informed on current research and practices in evaluating maternal health systems.
– Lead or assist in preparing reports, academic papers, presentations, and other materials based on project findings.
– Participate in or lead field data collection activities at healthcare facilities in Tanzania and similar settings.
– Support evaluation efforts, including planning, survey design, data entry, field visit logistics, and staff training.
– Take part in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

– Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a related field from an accredited institution.
– At least 5 years of relevant experience with a focus on data analysis, or 3 years with a PhD.
– Advanced skills in data management and statistical analysis using SAS or similar software.
– Experience designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, including advanced analytics and publication of results.
– Strong initiative, adaptability, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
– Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in producing complex documents like detailed reports and peer-reviewed articles.
– Professionalism and sound judgment in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
