About the Role

The ESG Finance Manager plays a key role in ensuring Xero’s reporting is accurate, insightful, and of the highest quality. This position involves gaining a deep understanding of Xero’s operations and applying rigor to non-financial KPIs, carbon accounting, and sustainability disclosures. The ESG Finance Manager will collaborate closely with the sustainability team to meet statutory carbon reporting obligations across Xero’s entities. Reporting to the GM of External Reporting, this role requires building strong relationships across the business and serving as a trusted advisor.

Note: This is a fixed-term maternity leave cover position through October 2026.

Key Responsibilities

– Compile the Xero Group carbon inventory in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and calculate emissions for subsidiaries with mandatory reporting requirements.
– Develop and oversee Xero’s sustainability reporting, ensuring data accuracy, streamlined processes, and strong internal controls. This includes the sustainability report, Xero Databook, and any required subsidiary reports.
– Support the creation of external reporting and analysis that delivers valuable insights to investors and analysts, with a focus on non-financial KPIs and sustainability metrics.
– Serve as the primary contact for external audits related to the Group carbon inventory and sustainability reporting, ensuring timely responses and adherence to internal reporting deadlines. Coordinate with the sustainability team and EGM Accounting for accurate board-level reporting.
– Review all sustainability report metrics and financial data, working with verification teams and stakeholders to ensure accuracy and proper documentation.
– Lead the implementation of systems and processes to manage non-financial data in a centralized, reliable, and auditable manner across the organization.
– Ensure all documents meet high standards of accuracy and quality, and are delivered within tight deadlines.
– Contribute to major finance projects and initiatives as directed by the EGM – Accounting and GM – External Reporting.

What You’ll Bring

– Over 7 years of experience in finance roles within large corporations or Big Four accounting firms.
– Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
– Professional qualification such as CA or equivalent.
– Familiarity with sustainability frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, IFRS S1 & S2, Integrated Reporting, AASB S1 & S2, NZ CS1, 2 & 3, or similar.
– Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
– Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
– Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
– A collaborative team player who contributes to a high-performing team environment.
– Outstanding communication and presentation skills in both formal and informal settings.
