About the team:
The Fraud team ensures Wealthsimple can grow securely by balancing fraud prevention with a smooth client experience. Our mission is to reduce losses while maintaining seamless user interactions. We rely on data and analytics to guide every decision.
In this role, you’ll tackle complex challenges in a fast-paced environment, continuously launching and refining features. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, product managers, and data scientists. We’re looking for a versatile problem-solver who can collaborate across teams to deliver fraud prevention strategies, real-time defenses, financial models, data visualizations, and machine learning-based decision thresholds.
You’ll be involved in every major product launch, working closely with product, tech, and risk teams. Your contributions will help prevent millions in fraud annually and protect the financial well-being of over 4 million clients.
In this role, you will:
– Develop data-backed business cases for fraud strategies across new and existing products
– Collaborate with data science, product, and engineering teams to bring ideas to life
– Build metrics and visualizations to monitor account activity and identify unusual patterns
– Report on fraud trends and performance to leadership
– Use financial modeling to assess the potential fraud impact of new features
– Set decision thresholds based on machine learning risk scores
What you bring:
– Strong data skills with proven success in academic or professional settings
– Ability to structure ambiguous problems, perform quantitative and qualitative analysis, and turn findings into actionable insights
– Skilled at communicating complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
– Capable of making balanced, informed decisions
– Passionate and intellectually curious about your work
Preferred qualifications:
– Experience with large datasets and programming languages like SQL, R, or Python
– Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, or PowerBI
– Experience with databases like Snowflake, Redshift, or MySQL
