The Role

The Care Operations Referral Coordinator supports patients and care teams by ensuring timely access to both clinical and non-clinical services. This role involves collaborating with healthcare providers and insurance partners to identify the best referral options using Synapticure’s AI-powered platform. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems and navigating national and local resources to meet patient needs.

Job Responsibilities

– Review and process service requests and orders promptly and accurately.
– Handle prior authorizations with various insurance providers.
– Generate orders and assist patients with scheduling appointments.
– Coordinate referrals for durable medical equipment (DME) and medications when needed.
– Maintain thorough documentation in patients’ medical records.
– Serve as a communication link between patients, healthcare providers, and insurers to ensure smooth care transitions.
– Provide updates on referral statuses to all relevant parties.
– Obtain prior authorizations for diagnostic services like CT scans and MRIs.
– Schedule appointments once services are authorized.
– Act as a liaison among patients, providers, pharmacies, infusion centers, and billing departments.
– Apply clinical knowledge to support the referral process.
– Request and collect medical records from external providers and health plans.
– Perform additional tasks to support patient care and operational needs.

Requirements

– At least 3 years of experience in roles such as patient navigator, prior authorization specialist, imaging coordinator, medical assistant, or referral coordinator; experience in neurology, radiology, or infusion settings is preferred.
– Medical Assistant background is a plus.
– Strong communication skills with healthcare professionals.
– Ability to clearly present information and respond to inquiries from leadership, team members, and external stakeholders.
– Solid understanding of insurance processes and medical terminology.
– Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
– Ability to explain complex medical and insurance information in a compassionate and understandable way.
– Commitment to patient advocacy and problem-solving.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, health systems, and insurers.

Compensation: $24 – $27 per hour, depending on location, experience, and skills.
