Position Summary:
In this position, you will contribute to Rackspace’s application security initiatives by deploying and managing security testing tools such as static and dynamic application security testing. You will assist with penetration testing efforts and help manage the bug bounty program. Collaboration with development teams will be key as you identify, report, and support the resolution of security vulnerabilities across various applications.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

– 2–4 years of experience in information security
– Background in application security, security testing, or DevSecOps
– Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), security principles, and vulnerability assessment techniques
– Practical experience or familiarity with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Ruby, PHP), databases (e.g., SQL), and tools like GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, and CircleCI
– Knowledge of common vulnerabilities and how to address them, including classification systems like CVE, CWE, CVSS, and OWASP Top 10
– Awareness of compliance standards such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, or HIPAA
– Strong interest in cybersecurity and a desire to stay updated on new technologies and threats
– Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Primary Responsibilities:

– Conduct application security testing using automated tools and manual methods on web apps, APIs, containers, and other components
– Set up, manage, and operate tools for SAST, DAST, and other security testing
– Review and prioritize security findings, providing clear remediation steps to development teams
– Manage the vulnerability reporting process and ensure issues are resolved
– Assist in evaluating and validating external vulnerability reports and bug bounty submissions
– Help develop and maintain application security standards and procedures
– Participate in code reviews and threat modeling sessions
– Monitor and report on application security metrics
– Work with development and DevOps teams to embed security into CI/CD workflows
– Keep up with trends and advancements in application security
– Provide support during urgent security incidents under senior team guidance

Education and Certifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity, or a related field
– At least one recognized security certification, such as:
– CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
– CompTIA Security+
– eWPT (eLearnSecurity Web Application Penetration Tester)
– GIAC (GWAPT, GSEC)
– Offensive Security (OSCP, OSWE)
– (ISC)² (SSCP, CC)
– EC-Council (CEH, ECSA)
