Overview:
The CDC Foundation is partnering with the CDC and local health authorities to provide additional staffing for the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program. Through this initiative, the Foundation will place epidemiologists in jurisdictions that require support to meet OD2A goals. The role involves conducting surveillance, assisting with data collection and sharing related to drug overdoses, analyzing both fatal (SUDORS) and nonfatal (DOSE) overdose data, launching innovative surveillance projects, and sharing findings to inform local prevention and response strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
– Master’s degree (preferably in public health or a related field)
– Minimum of two years of experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
– Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences
– Proficiency in at least one statistical software program (SAS preferred) and Microsoft Office
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build strategic partnerships
– Solid understanding of research and epidemiologic study design and implementation
– Capable of working independently and in team settings
– Experience working remotely with distributed teams
– Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Zoom
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with OD2A-funded health departments to enhance data processing
– Conduct literature reviews on drug overdose topics
– Create state-specific fact sheets and data visualizations using overdose data
– Prepare manuscripts, surveillance reports, and data briefs
– Support health departments in submitting and validating DOSE data
– Assist with innovative surveillance efforts in OD2A jurisdictions
– Guide SUDORS data abstractors on case definitions and coding
– Review and complete SUDORS closeout reports
– Support implementation and evaluation of the Rapid Opioid Death Detection (RODD) activity
– Participate in discussions on using OD2A data for public health action
– Attend DOSE and SUDORS workgroup meetings
– Provide training and technical support on epidemiology and disease control
– Serve as a contact for epidemiologic issues
– Develop procedures for new and existing disease control programs
