Scrum Master

Roles and Responsibilities

The Scrum Master ensures that Scrum principles are understood and followed. They guide the team in adhering to Scrum theory, practices, and rules.

As a servant-leader, the Scrum Master supports the Scrum Team and helps external stakeholders understand how to interact with the team in ways that enhance productivity and value delivery.

Support to the Product Owner

The Scrum Master assists the Product Owner by:

– Identifying effective techniques for managing the Product Backlog
– Helping the team understand the importance of clear and concise backlog items
– Supporting product planning in a flexible, data-driven environment
– Ensuring the Product Backlog is prioritized to deliver maximum value
– Promoting agile principles
– Facilitating Scrum events when needed

Support to the Organization

The Scrum Master contributes to the organization by:

– Leading and mentoring teams in adopting Scrum
– Planning and executing Scrum implementations
– Educating employees and stakeholders on Scrum and iterative development
– Driving changes that boost team productivity
– Collaborating with other Scrum Masters to improve Scrum practices across the organization

Support to the Development Team

The Scrum Master supports the Development Team by:

– Coaching in self-organization and cross-functional collaboration
– Enabling the team to deliver high-value products
– Removing obstacles to progress
– Facilitating Scrum events as needed
– Guiding the team in environments where Scrum is still being adopted

Minimum Qualifications

Agile & Scrum Expertise

– At least 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master in an agile setting
– In-depth knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe frameworks
– Proven ability to lead Scrum ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, Reviews)
– Strong grasp of agile metrics (burn-down charts, velocity, cycle time, lead time) and their application in decision-making

Workload Management & Capacity Planning

– Skilled in managing team workload for consistent delivery
– Capable of anticipating and mitigating potential bottlenecks
– Experience aligning tasks with team capacity and skills
– Able to reprioritize dynamically to meet project demands without overburdening team members

Team Mentorship & Performance Enhancement

– Strong leadership with a focus on coaching and mentoring
– Experience in developing team skills and identifying growth areas
– Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and learning
– Knowledge of process optimization to boost velocity while maintaining quality and team morale

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

– Excellent communication skills for working with technical and business stakeholders
– Experience managing expectations and providing transparency on progress and risks
– Skilled at bridging communication between business and technical teams
– Experience working with distributed teams across time zones

Technical Skills & Tools

– Proficient in agile tools like Jira, Confluence, Trello, Azure DevOps, etc.
– Able to monitor and report team performance using agile metrics and dashboards
– Understanding of software development processes and technical dependencies

Agile Mindset & Problem Solving

– Able to drive workflow improvements and enhance team efficiency
– Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
– Experienced in managing multiple priorities and stakeholder needs

Certifications (Preferred but not required)

– Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or similar
– Additional certifications in Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC), SAFe, or Lean are advantageous

Experience in Agile Transformation (Preferred but not required)

– At least 5 years of experience leading agile transformations or transitioning teams from waterfall to agile
– Ability to assess agile maturity and recommend scaling strategies
