Location: Flexible/remote within Nebraska, with a preference for Lincoln or Omaha.
Travel is required for this role.
Reports To: Deputy Regional Field Director and the Nebraska Chapter Executive Committee
Supervises: Chapter Organizer and/or other chapter staff

Role Summary:
The Nebraska Chapter Director is responsible for implementing Sierra Club’s mission and strategic goals across the state. Working closely with the Chapter Executive Committee, the Director oversees chapter programs and operations, including conservation efforts, political advocacy, equity initiatives, fundraising, volunteer engagement, administration, budgeting, and media outreach. This role also involves managing chapter staff and serving as the public face of the organization in Nebraska. Evening and weekend availability is often necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
– Support the Chapter Executive Committee and volunteer teams in setting and evaluating annual goals, and report regularly on progress to leadership and national staff.
– Provide strategic leadership and foster a collaborative, justice-oriented chapter culture.
– Lead fundraising efforts, including donor engagement, grant writing, and coordination with national fundraising teams.
– Collaborate with the Chapter Treasurer to develop and manage the annual budget and ensure financial accountability.
– Recruit, train, and support volunteers and future leaders to strengthen chapter capacity.
– Represent the Nebraska Chapter in the media and public forums, and build relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
– Ensure alignment with national Sierra Club strategies and policies through close coordination with regional and national staff.
– Build partnerships with other organizations and community leaders to advance shared environmental goals.
– Grow chapter membership and engagement through outreach, events, and educational programs.
– Lead or support lobbying efforts at the local and state levels in coordination with the legislative committee.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
– Proven experience in grassroots organizing, volunteer coordination, coalition building, and advocacy.
– Experience managing staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, and compliance with employment policies.
– Strong background in fundraising and budget management, including donor relations and membership growth.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and persuade diverse audiences.
– Commitment to personal growth and understanding of systemic oppression, with a willingness to reflect on privilege and power.
– Positive, solutions-oriented mindset with a collaborative and respectful approach to leadership.
– Knowledge of environmental and social justice issues relevant to Nebraska, particularly those affecting Indigenous, Latine, and other marginalized communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Familiarity with Nebraska and federal conservation, energy, and environmental policies.
– Experience with tools such as Salesforce, NGP VAN, Hustle, and Quorum.
– Proficiency in web design and social media platforms.
– Experience working with underrepresented or environmental justice communities.
– Background in local, state, or federal advocacy and lobbying.
Compensation and Benefits:
Annual Salary: $89,100
Includes comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision coverage, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
This is a full-time, exempt, non-represented position.
