Bixal is looking for a Spanish Translator to assist a client in providing curated, consumer-friendly health information. The ideal candidate will be a native Spanish speaker with a strong understanding of medical and public health terminology.

This is a part-time role, averaging 20 hours per week. Applicants must be available during standard business hours and reside within the continental United States. The position is a short-term contract through July 3, with the potential for extension. Candidates must be willing to travel to Bethesda, MD or Durham, NC for fingerprinting.

Requirements:

– Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking both Spanish and English in professional and consumer contexts.
– Prior professional experience in a bilingual work environment.
– Experience working with consumer-level health content in both languages.
– Understanding of culturally appropriate Spanish for U.S. Hispanic and Latino audiences.
– Minimum of one year of experience evaluating or working with health-related information.
– Ability to use databases or content management systems. Training will be provided, but candidates should be comfortable learning new systems, entering data, and utilizing system tools.

Pay: $44–$46 per hour

Responsibilities:

– Provide Spanish-language expertise to ensure MedlinePlus en Español content remains accurate, culturally appropriate, and relevant for a broad Spanish-speaking audience.
– Update, revise, or correct health topics and medical test entries, and create new content in line with the latest NLM guidelines.
– Maintain high-quality database entries in accordance with current policies.
– Translate new content using culturally neutral Spanish.
– Deliver updated translations for 100 reviewed Medical Test monographs and full translations for three new monographs annually.
– Contribute to the planning, development, testing, and launch of the “One Consumer Health” information portal.
– Occasionally assist with other Spanish-language products and services from NLM.
– Support SEO efforts by translating and updating title tags and other metadata.
– Help coordinate and share information with Spanish-language programs across NIH and partner agencies.
