Salary: $35/hour, paid weekly

Position Summary:
The Perry Local School District is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented, and motivated Transcriptionist to support its Special Education department. This role involves converting audio and video content into accurate written documents while maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to legal and district standards.

The ideal candidate will have excellent typing skills, a strong grasp of educational terminology, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. This position plays a vital role in helping the district deliver services to students with special needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Transcription Tasks:

– Transcribe audio and video recordings from IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, classroom sessions, and other educational events.
– Accurately document spoken content, including verbal and non-verbal communication and specialized terminology.
– Ensure transcripts are clear, properly formatted, and compliant with district and legal standards.

Data Management:

– Keep well-organized and secure records of all transcripts.
– Manage and update files within the district’s student information system or other designated platforms.
– Ensure compliance with FERPA and other privacy regulations.

Collaboration:

– Coordinate with teachers, administrators, and special education staff to understand the context of recordings.
– Clarify unclear audio and provide feedback when needed.

Document Review:

– Proofread and edit transcripts for grammar, formatting, and consistency.
– Make corrections based on staff feedback while maintaining accuracy.

Support for Special Education:

– Assist in preparing IEP documents and related forms by transcribing meeting notes and evaluations.
– Help ensure timely and accurate documentation to meet legal requirements.

Professional Development:

– Stay current with transcription tools, software, and best practices.
– Attend training sessions and professional development as required.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

– High school diploma required; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
– Minimum of one year of transcription or administrative experience; background in education or special education is a plus.
– Familiarity with transcription tools (e.g., Express Scribe, Otter.ai) and basic audio/video editing is beneficial.

Skills & Abilities:

– Typing speed of at least 60 WPM with high accuracy.
– Strong listening and comprehension skills across various accents and audio sources.
– Knowledge of special education terms and IEP processes is preferred.
– Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
– Excellent proofreading and attention to detail.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
– Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
