About Us
The Athletic, backed by one of the largest sports newsrooms globally, delivers in-depth stories for fans about their favorite teams, sports, and athletes. With over 500 full-time journalists, we provide comprehensive coverage of hundreds of professional and college teams across more than 47 North American cities, all 20 English Premier League clubs, and several Championship teams.

About the Role
As part of the Content Operations team, you’ll join a high-performing content production group. Reporting to the Senior Video Growth Manager, your responsibilities will include content programming, editorial and video operations, editing, and executing social video strategies.

Your work will involve optimizing video titles, descriptions, hashtags, thumbnails, and other elements to enhance performance and engagement. You’ll also be involved in community interaction and platform-specific best practices.

Your video editing skills will be key in tailoring content for various social platforms. You’ll support paid social campaigns, ensure content accuracy, and collaborate with teams across Global Shows and Series, reporter video, and highlights to ensure timely publishing.

We’re looking for someone who understands how algorithms on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook work and knows how to edit and publish content to maximize reach. A strong grasp of social analytics and the ability to explain performance metrics is essential. Passion for sports—especially NFL, NBA, and NHL—is important. Journalism experience is a plus but not required.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are passionate about social media, storytelling, and video content.

Requirements

– At least 2 years of relevant experience in media, publishing, platforms, or agencies; sports media preferred
– Advanced video editing skills with a strong sense of what drives social video success
– Solid understanding of social media analytics and platform algorithms
– Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
– Ability to work independently with some guidance
– Based in North America, ideally on the West Coast for time zone coverage
