Position Summary

Location: This role offers a hybrid work option for candidates based in Atlanta. International travel up to 30% is expected.

Salary: $105,000–$130,000, plus benefits

Overview:

The CDC Foundation is hiring a Senior Epidemiologist to join the Global Rotavirus Vaccine Impact and Effectiveness project team. This role focuses on evaluating the performance of oral rotavirus vaccines in high-burden areas through acute gastroenteritis surveillance and vaccine impact, effectiveness, and safety assessments. The Senior Epidemiologist will work closely with experts, governments, and partners to enhance surveillance systems and ensure the collection of high-quality vaccine data.

This full-time, grant-funded position is expected to run through June 30, 2027, with potential for extension based on project needs and funding. Fluency in French is required. The selected candidate will be employed by the CDC Foundation and work on-site at the CDC’s Roybal Campus, collaborating with the CDC’s rotavirus program. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the nation’s leading public health agency. Key Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a subject matter expert in acute gastroenteritis surveillance and rotavirus vaccine evaluation.

2. Provide technical guidance for field operations and data collection:
a. Assist in designing and implementing epidemiological studies.
b. Train local implementing partners.
c. Monitor study progress, including data collection and participant enrollment.
d. Ensure quality control of fieldwork and data.

3. Lead data analysis and support dissemination:
a. Prepare and clean data from various sources for analysis.
b. Conduct epidemiological analyses aligned with project goals.
c. Contribute to writing project reports and peer-reviewed publications.
d. Represent the project at relevant professional conferences and meetings.

4. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

– Master’s degree in epidemiology or a related field is required; a doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, DrPH, or equivalent) is preferred.
– Proficiency in French (advanced level) is required.
– Minimum of five years of experience in epidemiology, including fieldwork, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation, vaccine effectiveness studies, and public health program implementation.
– Ability to conduct qualitative data analysis using various tools.
– Experience in designing and conducting epidemiological research, including advanced statistical analysis and publishing findings.
– At least five years of public health experience in international, low-resource settings is strongly preferred.
– Experience working with Ministries of Health and international partners in Africa for at least five years.
– Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
– Demonstrated diplomatic skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including international organizations.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office, R or similar statistical software, and REDCap.
– Willingness to travel internationally up to 30%.
